Moving from Gramps Web to LifeWell

A free, open-source genealogy system you run on your own server, with charts, maps and full data export. Choose Gramps Web if you want open source, your own server, GEDCOM in and out, and PDF reports of the tree. Choose LifeWell if you do not want to run a server, and you want the same people to carry memories, appointments and health records, with an Android app.

Last checked 2026-11-07. The full comparison is on LifeWell and Gramps Web.

How to move across

  1. Open LifeWell and sign in. Start with yourself.
  2. Add the people you already have in Gramps Web, one record at a time (people). LifeWell does not import from other services, so start with those closest to you.
  3. Link them to each other, and the family tree draws itself.
  4. Add the memories that matter, with a photo, a date and a place (memories).
  5. Keep Gramps Web for anything LifeWell does not do, such as historical records or DNA.

LifeWell does not keep the audio of a conversation yet: it writes down what you say. It cannot print your tree for a wall, it has no to-do list for today, and it has no iPhone app. It is not medical advice.
