Communities

Communities in LifeWell are topic-based feeds where users post, comment, and react in support of shared interests — pregnancy support, new-parent questions, weight-loss journeys, mental-health peer support, fitness motivation. Each community has a topic, an admin team, posting rules, and a feed of posts ordered by recency or popularity.

The community module is opt-in. Most users either use one or two communities heavily or skip the module entirely. Communities are the social layer of LifeWell, but they're not the centre of gravity — your health, family, and memory tracking work fully without engaging with any community.

What a community is

AspectDetail
TopicA defined interest area (e.g. "Pregnancy after 35", "First-time parents", "Type 2 diabetes management")
Admin teamOne or more LifeWell users moderate posts, set rules, and remove violators
MembersUsers who have joined; can post and react
RulesCommunity-specific posting rules + LifeWell's site-wide rules
FeedPosts in chronological or popularity order
CategoriesHigh-level grouping for browse (Health, Parenting, Mental health, etc.)

Joining a community

From the communities list:

  1. Browse by category or search.
  2. Tap a community to see its description, rules, and recent posts.
  3. Tap Join.
  4. You can now post and react.

Joining is free. Some communities are public (anyone can see posts without joining); others are members-only (must join to see content). The visibility setting is per-community.

Posts

Each post has:

  • Author — your LifeWell profile (display name + photo).
  • Title — required, the headline.
  • Body — rich text via TipTap (markdown-style formatting).
  • Media — optional photos or video.
  • Tags — community-specific tags for filtering.
  • Reactions — like, helpful, supportive, etc.
  • Comments — threaded discussion.

The post format is intentionally close to a forum post (Reddit-style) — substantive titles, longer bodies, threaded comments — rather than a Twitter-style firehose. The pattern encourages depth over reaction.

Posting

To post:

  1. Open the community.
  2. Tap New post.
  3. Choose a flair / tag (e.g. "Question", "Story", "Support request").
  4. Write title + body.
  5. (Optional) Add photos.
  6. Submit.

Posts go through community-specific moderation:

  • Open communities — posts appear immediately.
  • Moderated communities — posts await admin approval before appearing.
  • Verified-only communities — only verified members (those who've completed identity verification) can post.

Comments and reactions

Comments are threaded — reply directly to a comment, not just the post. The thread is shown in nested view by default; users can switch to flat-time-ordered view.

Reactions:

  • Like — generic upvote.
  • Helpful — surfaces posts/comments that contained useful info.
  • Supportive — for support-themed communities where "like" feels off.
  • Insightful — for analytical posts.
  • Disagree — explicit but non-punitive (doesn't down-rank).

No public score totals — engagement counts are visible to mods and the post author but not displayed prominently on the post card. The aim is to reduce performative reaction-chasing.

Moderation

Each community has 1+ admins responsible for:

  • Setting community rules.
  • Approving member applications (if private).
  • Approving posts (if moderated).
  • Removing posts that violate rules.
  • Banning members who repeatedly violate.

LifeWell's site-wide rules (no medical-misinformation, no harassment, no hate speech, no commercial spam, no illegal content) apply to all communities. Community-specific rules layer on top.

The admin module covers the platform-admin tools for community oversight.

Common community types

The platform launches with topical communities covering:

  • Pregnancy — first trimester, second trimester, third trimester, high-risk, after 35
  • Parenting — newborn, toddler, school-age, teen, special needs
  • Health conditions — Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, PCOS, endometriosis, autoimmune
  • Mental health — anxiety, depression, postpartum, grief support
  • Fitness & weight — weight loss, strength training, running, yoga
  • Diet — keto, vegetarian, vegan, intermittent fasting, plant-based
  • Family life — single parents, foster/adoption, blended families, fertility
  • Wellness — sleep, mindfulness, stress, work-life balance

Each region's launch may include localised communities. New community proposals can be submitted via feedback.

Privacy in communities

Your community profile is separate from your private LifeWell data:

  • Display name (you can use a pseudonym).
  • Profile photo (you can use an avatar instead of your real photo).
  • Communities you've joined are public (visible on your community profile) unless you set them to hidden.
  • Posts you write are public to the community's audience.
  • Comments and reactions are visible to the community.
  • Your private LifeWell data (memories, notes, health records) is never visible to community members.

The pseudonym option matters for users in sensitive topics (mental health, fertility, conditions with stigma). Sign up with a pseudonym and your real name + face stay private.

Honest framing — what communities are NOT

  • Not a substitute for medical care. Peer support is valuable; it's not clinical advice. Any community will repeatedly tell you "see a doctor for X".
  • Not screened for misinformation automatically. Mod teams flag content, but vetting is human. Take posts as personal experience, not authoritative.
  • Not anonymous. Even with a pseudonym, your activity is traceable to your account (necessary for moderation). Truly anonymous posting is a different product.
  • Not algorithmically optimised for engagement. No infinite-scroll engagement loops, no "what's hot" engagement bait. The default sort is recency, not algorithm.
  • Not monetised through ads. Communities don't carry advertising. Premium support of LifeWell funds the platform, not ad surveillance.

Frequently asked

Can I start my own community? Yes — submit a community proposal from the communities page. The platform reviews to avoid duplicate communities and to ensure the topic isn't going to require heavy moderation overhead.

Can I leave a community? Yes — open the community → Leave. Your posts stay (so the conversation isn't disrupted) but you no longer get notifications and can no longer post.

Can I delete a post I made? Yes — your own posts and comments can be deleted at any time. Deletion is soft (a "post deleted" placeholder remains for thread context); hard delete also available.

What if I'm being harassed? Use the Report button on the offending content. The community admin and (for severe cases) platform admins review. Block individual users from the chats settings.

Can I export my community posts? Yes — from your community profile, Export my posts generates a JSON archive of all posts and comments you've made.
