Age calculator
The age calculator takes a date of birth and returns your exact age — years, months, days — plus a small set of derived facts: the day of the week you were born, your zodiac sign, your generation label, total days lived, an estimated number of heartbeats and breaths, the date and countdown to your next birthday, and a few notable life milestones. It's a casual utility; nothing here is health-tracked or persisted.

The calculator validates that DOB is not in the future. Times of day are not modelled — the result is at calendar-day granularity.
Output
The page returns:
- Exact age — years, months, days breakdown.
- Total age — in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds (informational).
- Day of the week you were born.
- Zodiac sign (Western tropical zodiac).
- Generation — Silent Generation / Baby Boomer / Gen X / Millennial / Gen Z / Gen Alpha, by standard birth-year cohorts.
- Next birthday — date, day of week, and countdown.
- Life milestones — first day of school, voting age, drinking age (jurisdiction-dependent), retirement age, etc.
- Fun stats — estimated heartbeats (assuming ~80 bpm baseline) and breaths (assuming ~16 breaths/min) since birth.
Formula
Age calculation uses standard calendar arithmetic:
years = current_year − birth_year (adjusted for whether the birthday has occurred yet this year)
months = current_month − birth_month (adjusted for whether the day-of-month has been reached)
days = days since the latest "monthiversary"
Edge cases:
- Leap-year birthdays (Feb 29): in non-leap years, the page treats Feb 28 as the "monthiversary" anchor.
- Time zones: the calculator uses your browser's local time zone. If you were born in a different zone, the day-of-week could shift by one depending on the hour.

The page uses the standard Western tropical zodiac with these date ranges:

The cusps (boundaries) are widely-cited but vary by source by a day in either direction; the calculator uses one consistent convention.

These cohorts follow the Pew Research Center's commonly-used divisions. Generation labels are sociological shorthand, not categorical truths.

Given DOB 1990-03-15, computed as of 2026-05-11:
- Exact age: 36 years, 1 month, 26 days.
- Day of the week born: Thursday.
- Zodiac: Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20).
- Generation: Millennial.
- Next birthday: 2027-03-15 (Monday), ~308 days away.
- Estimated heartbeats: ~1.5 billion (assuming 80 bpm avg).

Why use a dedicated calculator
For exact age in years, most people approximate from the birth year. The calculator's value:
- Exact days for paperwork that requires precise age.
- Day-of-week of birth (often needed for astrology consultations).
- Countdown to next birthday for planning.
- Easy zodiac / generation lookup without remembering the cutoffs.
Frequently asked
The day-of-week says Thursday but I was told I was born on Wednesday. Depending on the time-of-day of birth and the time zone, the calendar day might differ. The calculator uses your browser's local zone interpretation of the date.
Why does the zodiac sometimes disagree with what I read elsewhere? The cusps between zodiac signs aren't universally agreed — astrology sources cite slightly different boundaries. The dates in the table above are widely-used; if you're closer to a cusp, some sources will say one sign, some the other.
Are the heartbeat / breath estimates accurate? They're rough — using fixed average rates. Real heart rate varies enormously with sleep, exercise, age, and stress. The numbers are for fun, not biology.
Can I calculate age at a past date? Yes — use the "as-of date" field. Useful for things like "how old was I on 9/11" or "how old will I be on my parent's anniversary in 2050".
Does the calculator handle Hebrew, Islamic, Hindu, or other calendars? No, it uses the Gregorian calendar. Converting between calendar systems is a complex task and outside this calculator's scope.
